Satellite Clubs aim to target young people aged 14-19 who aren’t currently active, particularly those who are in groups typically under-represented in sport. Satellite Clubs provide young people the opportunity to take part in sport and activity on a regular basis through the creation of enjoyable and convenient sessions that are designed around the needs of the young people to provide a positive experience of being active.
Shelford Rugby Club’s ‘Wednesday Night Lights’ Satellite Club provides a friendly and safe environment for local youths aged 14 – 15 to come together and enjoy physical activity while learning to embrace rugby unions core values of: Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.
Wednesday Night Lights takes place at Shelford Rugby Club on Wednesday night during school term times from 7pm to 9pm. The activities include a range of non-contact ‘touch’ rugby-based games as well as team challenges designed to develop a healthy culture amongst the group.
The three main outcomes of the club are:
FUN – enjoyable activities in a safe environment.
FRIENDS – hanging out with existing and making new friends.
FEEL GOOD – experiencing the positive feelings and self-pride that is associated with being active.
For the delivery of this club, Shelford Rugby Club has joined forces with the Shelford & Stapleford Youth Initiative Group who have great experience in providing excellent youth services to the local area.
